High Performance Driving Events
. Have you always wanted to experience the thrill of speed and learn the limit of your vehicle?  Our High Performance Driving Event program, commonly referred to as HPDE, is a tiered level learning program designed to give street car drivers the opportunity to get on a race track under controlled conditions.  Set your own goals for advancement in the HPDE skill levels, HPDE Groups 1 through 4.  All you need is a reliable car, a helmet and a good attitude!  As a general rule, most late model closed top vehicles in good condition will pass technical inspection.  Some convertibles with factory installed roll bars or aftermarket roll bars are also allowed in HPDE. View more info on HPDE.

NASA Time Trial (TT) program offers advanced HPDE 4 level drivers a chance to compete against the clock to knock down their quickest lap times. Format allows enthusiasts to enjoy a wide range of aftermarket upgrades while still being able to compete in a fair environment. See TT web site for full info!

Competition RACING - Licensed NASA racers compete for season points and trophies. NASA FL race program  is open to ALL closed wheel NASA Race Series.  American Iron, Honda Challenge, Spec Miata, Factory Five Challenge, German Touring Series, Performance Touring, Super Touring/Super Unlimited, Spec E-30 are just some of the NASA race series groups currently represented in NASA FL.  Get race class & NASA licensing info Here!  View NASA racer "Contingency Programs" you might be eligible for!

NASA FL racer Scott McKay won his 3rd consecutive NASA championship in Factory Five Challenge
at the 5th annual NASA National Championships at Miller Motorsport Park in Toole, Utah this weekend.  View NASA Championships results here.  Play by play recap by Scott's brother Mark McKay: "In Friday's qualifying race, Scott's fuel pump pickup tube fell off and he finished last in the race, which set his position for 10th in Saturday's final race.  As it turned out, Paul Kaiser won Friday's qualifying race, but he was found to be too light in the post-race impound, so he was penalized with last place after the race (bumping Scott up to next-to-last), and Paul would start Saturday's final in 11th place.  Scott was more motivated than usual during Saturday's final race, and went from 10th to 3rd under braking for the first corner of the first lap, while Kaiser was mired in traffic.  It didn't take Scott long to pick off the 1st and 2nd place cars so that he could assume the lead, but with a handful of laps to go and with a 6 second lead, the engine started going south and he was giving up 1 second per lap.  Fortunately, the laps ran out before his lead did, and he was able to hold off the other challengers for the win."

NASA at PBIR Sept 4-5.  Event recap:
NASA FL drivers enjoyed Labor Day Weekend with 2 days of clear summer skies & an event that stayed on schedule allowing plenty of incident free track time & fun with fellow NASA members. NASA Chief Instructor Luis Jimenez and staff were kept busy with request for "check ride" evaluations and the following drivers were approved to advanced to the next tier in the HPDE ladder system:  From HPDE 1 to HPDE 2...Alejandro Illera, Mark D'Elia, Joe Davenport & Shawn Waggoner.  From HPDE 2 to HPDE 3..."Rockin' Jim Scheffer", John Carter, Jose "Diego" Gonzalez & "Wild Bill" Adkins.  From HPDE 3 to HPDE 4...Grant Beaty, David Tenney & John Phillips.  NASA FL welcomes John Strauss, Don Stevens and Andre Pettas to the NASA FL Instructor Roster starting this event.  Mark McKay, NASA FL TT Director, informed us there were TWO track records broken in the TT classes over the PBIR weekend.  Richard Bailey in this Backdraft Cobra set a TTR class record at 1:26.612......and Santiago Pericas set a record of 1:29.518 in TTB driving his Mits Evo.  Over in the NASA FL Racing Division 14 year old NASA racer Michael Lliteras dominated the Spec Miata Challenge drivers on Saturday with an outstanding effort that gained him the pole position in the Lightning race & also winning that same race by a margin of 9.07 seconds over the 2nd place SM finisher.  Eric Gebhardt charged back on Sunday and took first place in SMC. Brian Goldburg, Panoz ST 1 racer turned heads when he took first place overall in the Sunday combined Thunder and Lightning race finishing 2 laps ahead of his nearest competitor.  Special thanks to those who pitched in for a group effort to sponsor the Saturday social and purchase the hot pizza and favorite adult beverages that top off a great day at the track...this includes Ivan BeRossy, Doug McCabe, Neil Feinstein and also Ken (the tech guy) & Mona (the waiver girl) who made the trip into town to pick up the transport the pizza to the track.  It was a great weekend of fun and friendship and we can't wait to get back to the track next month at Sebring (Oct 2-3) to do it again!
