GET INVOLVED

Do you want to get more involved with NASA FL?  Just let us know!

There are many ways you can help and be part of the action at the track or behind the scenes in a support position.  If you have an interest in volunteering to take an active role in NASA FL, please review the following areas of specialty.

Areas of Specialty:

HPDE Pit Marshal- A great job for the car enthusiast because you have contact with all the cars and drivers that go on course.  The Pit Marshall meets the cars who arrive on pit lane prior to track sessions and direct the cars to the proper location.  Pit Marshal will check each car for proper event sticker, drivers for proper wristband and proper attire for the track.  Pit Marshall will also assist other officials in enforcing pit lane rules.

HPDE Technical Compliance Assistant- This job requires early riser who can be on site and ready to assist Technical compliance staff from 7-8:40 AM.  Duties include checking HPDE participant for proper run group, verifying assigned car number, checking driver helmets for proper rating, and assist the HPDE Tech Team as needed

RACE Grid Marshal-.  Prior to each race, 15-60 cars will show up looking for their grid spot. These cars need to be placed in a specific order.  A good Grid Marshal can often make or break a schedule.  The Grid Marshal is responsible for forming the grid and ensuring that all competition vehicles are positioned in the proper grid location.  This person will pick up the Race Qualifying results from Timing & Scoring and insures that all qualifying results are properly posted.

RACE Pre-Grid/Re-entry Marshal- Pre-grid Marshal will be responsible for the "set up" and "tear down" of the numbered grid spaces.  This person will check all cars for the proper event and group sticker, check all drivers for proper attire, and assist all officials in the enforcing of all pit lane rules.  This person is responsible for insuring that competition vehicles re-entering the track in the middle of the session do it in a safe and controlled manner.

PACE CAR Driver- Competition license required.  Train as a navigator in the passenger seat and handle pace car radio duties. Behind the wheel training to follow after the basics are mastered.  Lead the race field to the green flag and be part of the race control team!

RACE Timing & Scoring- T & S is one of the most important areas of responsibility.
T & S personnel work with the computerized race scoring system, which will require some basic knowledge of computers and typing.  The computer system has a transmitter on each car that triggers the computer every time the race car passes start finish.  We also need "tapers" who do not work directly with the computer system, but who keep a record of each car number on a lap chart so we keep a manual entry on car order.  These duties  take place in "air conditioned" comfort with a great view of the track.

Race POINTS Chairman- This important duty requires someone who is familiar with computers and the MS Excel program.  An understanding of NASA FL's points-keeping scoring system is a must.  Requires someone with basic math skills who can take race results from each weekend, update the regional points for each race class and forward the revised results to our web master for posting in a timely manner.

Event Registration Assistant- Registration is open from 7 AM until 11 AM each day.  Registration is typically quite busy first thing in the morning, but tends to slow down by late morning.  Working at registration requires basic knowledge of NASA and the functions of each NASA official because this is the place that most people go to ask questions.  Person in this job will assist in registration details including registration of HPDE passengers & the sale of NASA related merchandise.

Paddock Marshal- This job involves patrolling the paddock and assisting drivers and crew with various needs, as well as enforcing safety rules.  No schedule to keep, just an understanding of the paddock rules and a little diplomacy.

Trophy Chairman- This person will order trophies prior to event dates, label trophies for appropriate race classes prior to each event and ensure that the trophies are transported to the event.  This person will coordinate the set up and distribution of the trophies to podium winners with the Race Director & Awards Ceremony Chairman.

"Trophy Babes"- Pretty girls with a big smile!  Present trophies to race class podium winners at the race awards ceremony.  Pose for photos on the podium with race winners!  NASA trophy girl t-shirt provided.

Awards Ceremony Chairman- Prepare the winner circle/award area for the race awards ceremony at each event; coordinate refreshment details; hang the NASA banner and arrange  awards table with Trophy Chairman; assist Race Director with awards ceremony presentations; direct race winners to podium for photos.
