Recognition of the flags is important to your safety on track. Locate each flagging station on your first lap of the day, and make a visual check of each station on every pass. |
The flags and their meanings are as follows: |
GREEN: The track is open and clear. |
YELLOW - steady: Slow down and be prepared to take further action. NO PASSING! |
YELLOW - waving: Serious trouble "in the driving line". Slow down and be prepared to stop or take evasive action. NO PASSING! |
RED w/ YELLOW Stripes: Debris on track. Some foreign matter (Sand, dirt, oil, standing water, car part dropped on course etc.) Proceed with caution. Prepared to slow your speed or alter your path. |
RED: Great Danger. The session has been STOPPED. Stop as quickly and safely as possible on the side of the course. When instructed to do so proceed to the pits. |
BLUE w/ YELLOW Stripe: You are holding up faster traffic behind you. Give PASSING SIGNAL and allow traffic to pass in the next passing area. |
WHITE: Slow moving vehicle ahead (disabled car or emergency vehicle).
BLACK: Come to the Pits. Something is wrong with your driving or with your car. Acknowledge the Black Flag with a wave, complete that lap and enter pit lane to report to the Chief Steward. |
CHECKERED: The session is over. Use the remainder of the lap as a cool down, and acknowledge each flag station with a wave. Proceed to the paddock. |
